Dave Khorey Honored with Distinguished Service Award

Varnum labor and employment attorney Dave Khorey has been recognized by the Labor and Employment Section of the State Bar of Michigan with the Distinguished Service Award.

The award is given annually to a Michigan attorney who exemplifies outstanding service and professionalism in the practice of labor and employment law. Those considered for the award have made major contributions to their area of labor and employment law, reflect the highest ethical principles and are recognized and respected by all constituents in the labor and employment community. Khorey and Detroit attorney James M. Moore are co-recipients of the 2023 award, which was presented at the section’s annual meeting on January 20.

For nearly 40 years Khorey’s practice focused on representing management in labor and employment law matters, with significant work on collective bargaining negotiations, strikes and lockouts, NLRB proceedings, arbitration, union organizational campaigns and union avoidance programs.

Khorey has been a speaker for and contributor to ICLE as well as many local and national professional business groups, including the ABA. He served as Associate and Contributing Editor for the American Bar Association publication The Developing Labor Law for over a decade. Khorey is a past chair of the Labor Section Council of the State Bar of Michigan and has been active on a number of its committees.

At Varnum, Khorey served as the firm’s Managing Partner from 2016-2018 and multiple terms as leader of its Labor and Employment Team.

He was inducted as a Fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers in 2011 and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America© since 2001. He is consistently ranked in Chambers USA, which ranks top lawyers and law firms, as a leading labor and employment attorney.
