Varnum attorneys Kim Clarke and Eric Nemeth have been named to Law360 Editorial Advisory Boards for 2020. Clarke will serve on the Immigration board, and Nemeth will serve on the Tax Authority Federal board. Clarke is one of nine attorneys from across the country to serve on the Immigration advisory board. A partner at Varnum, she focuses her practice on immigration matters including nonimmigrant petitions employment- and family-based permanent residence applications, expatriation and foreign visa issues. She is experienced in worker verification issues and managing clients through internal and agency Form I-9 audits, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement compliance investigations and civil criminal charges. Clarke also maintains a specialty practice of consultation with agricultural clients and handles various agricultural labor and employment issues.
Nemeth is a partner and leads Varnum’s Tax Planning, Compliance and Litigation Practice Team. He has extensive experience in tax law with a focus on all aspects of related civil and criminal law, as well as complex financial investigative and litigation matters. Nemeth represents businesses, individuals and other entities such as trusts and estates in the defense of IRS, FBI, Homeland Security, state police and other law-enforcement agency investigations. He has significant experience counseling and representing witnesses, victims and targets of an investigation. His clients benefit from his prior experience representing the government in IRS audits, investigations, negotiations and litigation.
