Habitat for Humanity of Kent County recently honored Varnum attorney Dan Molhoek with the Hope Award in recognition of his nearly 40 years of involvement with the organization.
The Hope Award honors an individual who emulates hope throughout their community and inspires others through their passion for affordable housing, care for the community and faith in a better future. Dan was recognized at a recent House Party event, celebrating supporters of the organization.
Habitat for Humanity provided the following information about Dan’s recognition:
“As a donor and volunteer, Dan has been involved in Habitat since 1984 and truly embodies the Hope Award. For the past 22 years he has served in a wide variety of capacities: board member, board president and as a member of various committees including executive committee, resource development and mortgage finance. Dan also played a leadership role in our Building Blocks and Bright Futures Capital Campaigns, which significantly advanced our capacity to serve more families and further the mission of Habitat Kent. Suffice it to say, so much of what Habitat Kent has done has been aided by the advice, support and work of Dan Molhoek.
Since 1984, Dan has played a role in our success including:
- providing 490 affordable homeownership opportunities for local families through our homebuilding and rehab programs;
- operating two home improvement outlet stores, Habitat ReStore;
- committing to building LEED-certified homes, of which he has completed approximately 200; and
- providing the opportunity for tens-of-thousands of Kent County volunteers to be involved in providing affordable housing solutions.”
A corporate attorney for more than 40 years, Molhoek has worked with large and small businesses throughout his career, regularly advising directors on corporate and strategic issues. In addition to his work with Habitat for Humanity, he has been involved with numerous other community organizations including Friends of the Yankee Clipper Library, John Ball Zoo, North East Neighborhood Association, West Michigan Dental Foundation and several church committees and ministries.
