Varnum litigation attorney Neil Youngdahl has been named chair of the Young Lawyers Division of the Federal Bar Association for the Western District of Michigan.
The Young Lawyers Division serves to support programs of the Federal Bar Association as well as to promote collegiality for those who are at the beginning of their careers. A flagship program of the Bar is the Hillman Advocacy Program, a learn-by-doing seminar that gives attorneys a unique opportunity to develop courtroom skills under the guidance of some of Michigan’s top lawyers and federal judges.
Youngdahl is a member of Varnum’s Litigation and Trial practice. He is experienced in a wide variety of litigation matters including labor and employment, data privacy, real estate and commercial litigation. He has particular experience in appellate matters.
Prior to entering private practice, Youngdahl clerked for the Hon. Sean F. Cox on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and for the Hon. Richard Allen Griffin on the U.S. District Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. During these clerkships, he worked on hundreds of civil and criminal cases, gaining experience on the full spectrum of cases that come before a federal court.
During law school, Youngdahl interned for the Hon. Robert Holmes Bell on the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan and for the Hon. Joan Larsen on the Michigan Supreme Court, gaining insight into both of Michigan’s federal district courts and the state’s highest court.
Youngdahl received his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School, where he served as Articles Editor for the Michigan Journal of Environmental and Administrative Law. He graduated summa cum laude from Alma College for his undergraduate degree.
