Michigan Lawyers Weekly recently announced veteran labor and employment attorney Dave Khorey has been named to the Hall of Fame Class of 2022. The Hall of Fame program recognizes long-time legal leaders for successful careers and valuable contributions to the community.
A labor and employment lawyer for over 35 years, Khorey’s client-centered practice has covered a variety of labor and employment issues, from complex employee situations to multi-facility collective bargaining negotiations. He has served in a number of leadership roles during his career, including serving as Chair of the firm and multiple terms as leader of Varnum’s Labor and Employment Team.
Throughout his career, Khorey has been active in the labor and employment sections of the State Bar of Michigan, the Grand Rapids Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He served as an officer in the Industrial Relations Research Association – West Michigan Chapter for many years.
Khorey helped shape the direction of labor and employment law at the state and national levels, including by testifying before the U.S. Senate regarding the proposed TEAM Act in 1996. His representative work includes many National Labor Relations Board-related matters as well as two major retiree benefits litigation matters that went to jury trial.
Khorey also served as Associate and Contributing Editor for the ABA publication, The Developing Labor Law, for over a decade and has been a speaker and contributor for local and national professional groups, including the American Bar Association.
He was inducted as a Fellow into the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers in 2011 and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America© since 2001. He is consistently ranked in Chambers USA, which ranks top lawyers and law firms, as a leading labor and employment attorney.
In addition to his professional involvement, Khorey is an Archdeacon at Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church in Grand Rapids where he leads a variety of educational courses. He also served on various West Michigan community nonprofit boards including:
- Ferris State University School of Business, Dean’s Advisory Committee
- East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation, Board of Directors
- Faith Hospice, Board of Directors
- The Right Place, Board of Directors
Within his nomination for Hall of Fame recognition, it was noted that Khorey “is perhaps most notable for the respect he garners among his peers, including those who represent employees and unions and thus work ‘across the table’ from him in his work as a management-side labor attorney. It is hard to fathom a greater measure of a lawyer’s civility and professionalism than the respect of one’s opponents.”
Khorey and other members of the Class of 2022 Hall of Fame will be recognized at an awards event in April and will be profiled in an upcoming edition of Michigan Lawyers Weekly. More information can be found here.
