Varnum trial attorney Ron DeWaard has been named to the inaugural Lawdragon 500 Leading Litigators in America.
DeWaard, who serves as Chair of the firm, was specifically recognized for white collar, investigations and civil litigation. He was one of just five Michigan attorneys to make the list, with the majority of those recognized hailing from New York, Chicago and Washington, D.C.
Lawdragon selected members of the guide from a record number of submissions and independent research focused on recent cases and defense verdicts or settlements “as well as attorneys whose sustained excellence in trials is nothing short of remarkable.”
DeWaard concentrates his practice in civil and white-collar litigation, as well as internal investigations. He has tried cases in courts across the country and has obtained multimillion dollar verdicts and settlements for plaintiff businesses. He has also obtained a number of defense verdicts against plaintiffs claiming high damages.
His record of success includes representation of the former Director of the Michigan Health and Human Services in connection with the Flint Water Crisis, where he obtained dismissal of the indictment brought by the Michigan Attorney General.
Prior to joining Varnum, DeWaard served as an Assistant United States Attorney in Miami for the Southern District of Florida, where he prosecuted and tried several large criminal cases. He was also the Deputy Chief of the Major Crimes Division in that office from 2000 – 2001.
The list of all-star litigators is Lawdragon’s first guide dedicated to attorneys who excel representing principally corporations and other organizations in litigating claims involving antitrust, securities, financial, M&A, intellectual property and patents, product liability, mass tort, white collar, government investigations and energy disputes.
