Varnum partner Stephanie Setterington has been named a Go To Lawyer for Employment Law by Michigan Lawyers Weekly. The program recognizes top lawyers from around the state who practice labor and employment law.
As a partner on Varnum’s Labor and Employment Practice Team for more than 25 years, Setterington represents some of the area’s most well-known businesses in labor and employment matters. She advises on a wide variety of matters with an emphasis on employment litigation defense, the identification and development of best practices in the area of human resources and affirmative action.
Setterington also regularly assists higher education institutions and independent schools regarding specialized matters of compliance, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 (Title IX), the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), and other federal, state and local laws relating to students and employees of educational institutions.
In a signature high-profile matter, Setterington represented one of three Michigan universities in litigation before the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court regarding the constitutionality of Michigan’s voter-enacted ban on the use of affirmative action in college admissions.
Setterington is a frequent presenter on labor and employment topics, both through Varnum’s annual seminar for human resource professionals and to individual clients and other organizations.
Within the community, Setterington has served on the Board of Directors for Gilda’s Club of Grand Rapids for the past five years and currently serves as Vice Chair. She has served on the Paralegal Program Advisory Board for Davenport University since 2009.
Setterington and other honorees will be profiled in a special section of the March 25th edition of Michigan Lawyers Weekly.
